How To Burn Fat Off: Sleep More!

By : Sean Nalewanyj    99 or more times read
There are many articles and books that try to explain the concept of how to burn fat off.

Many talk of heavy exercise, eating certain "fat burning foods," and following a strict diet, yet very few of the techniques discussed in these books will actually help you learn how to burn fat off.

For instance, simply getting more sleep each night is often overlooked by many of the books and magazines.

Can more sleep actually affect you in your mission of figuring out how to burn fat off?

Sleep, after all, is the laziest thing we do all day, yet being sleep deprived affects us in a lot more ways than we think. For instance, being even slightly sleep deprived will hurt your performance at a gym significantly. A drop in your intensity level will reduce the effectiveness of your weight training and cardio routine.

Less sleep will also hinder your body's ability to repair your muscles after weight training. If you've learned anything about how to burn fat off, then you know that increasing your muscle mass is one of the keys to a fast metabolism.

Additionally, lack of sleep causes a hormone that increases feelings of hunger, known as grehlin, to be released in the body. This undermines your ability to adhere to your diet as cravings for sweets and other success-stealing snacks increase.

Sleeping less also leads to the consumption of more calories, simply because you are awake for that much longer. Being awake at midnight means you're most likely to indulge in unhealthy snacking.

Eating a few hundred extra calories every day can compromise your fat loss efforts, and this has nothing to do with whether or not you know about how to burn fat off.

Also, your body's synthesis of leptin is reduced when you are deprived of sleep.

Leptin is the hormone in our brain that helps us control our appetite. Reduced leptin levels lead to overeating; this means you're eating more calories and spending more time at the gym figuring out how to burn fat off.

There's more to this…

The lesser you sleep, the higher are the levels of cortisol in your body.

Weight gain, especially around the waistline, is accelerated by cortisol, a hormone produced by the body.

If your cortisol levels are too high, you'll end up storing more fat and losing muscle tissue. I'm sure you know that this is the worst possible combination for you, even if you don't know much about how to burn fat off.

Speaking of hormones, let's also not forget that lack of sleep reduces the growth hormone and testosterone levels.

These two hormones, in truth, are the most potent fat-burning substances in your body.

So how much should you be sleeping if you want to learn how to burn fat off and alter your body's composition?

Seven to eight hours of quality sleep every night is recommended by the experts.

Now that you've read this article, it must be clear why those who think they're doing just fine with 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night are actually impeding their weight loss goals.
